The game starts in a most promising way of being hectic and well directed. It pushes player in action without hesitations offering quick time events which after Protogonist finds himself arrested and interrogated.Throughout from the graphics and mentions of changes in dynamic storyline the game truely resembles Telltale games. But in the of the time of 2 hours this took to finish it I realized that the game barely reclaimed only half of the promises. There is not totally a lot of branching and is mainly limited within tone of dialog. Also the story was bit confusing time to time and proceeding too swiftly to get known with different characters let alone identify with them. For example in one chapter you are asked to give a opinion who might be a traitor and you are offered a list of characters which are completely half strangers and thus my opinion was more like a guess. However while the story might seem like an uncompleted puzzle at times it still is a puzzle of very interesting entirety. The game doesn't point out who is a good and bad guys like it should because from neutral perspective history should be looked to open thoughts and discussion. I am not an expert of middle east recent history but I do say that I feel little bit wiser than before I played this game. There is also much unlockable extra trivia.1979 Revolution: Black Friday is more like an acted documentary film than a game that concludes in cliff hanger. If you have thing with history and like story driven games give it a try, but otherwise look elsewhere.. A good point and click game that captures the 1979 revolution in Iran in an objective way. I like what this game attempted to do, to tell the story of the Iranian Revolution in the format of a Telltale game. It does a good job to presenting the history to the player through both play and a codex that provides exposition about Iran, its political parties, and more. Unfortunately, as a game, it falls flat. The voice acting is average throughout most of the game and becomes subpar in spots where its critical. The action sequences are infrequent and are not satisfying, most of the characters are forgetable, and the added Persian into dialogue helps with immersion but than proceeds to break it as it happens over and over again. If you're a fan of Telltale games or interactive history, maybe pick this up on sale. Otherwise, you might be better off with a copy of "All the Shah's Men.". This game was a real disappointment to me. The things I tend to value in a game are storytelling, immersion, and innovation. 1979 seemed like a good candidate to provide all of these elements, and the game was very well hyped throughout the lead-up to its release by press and critics. The topic seemed rich. I want more games that thematically confront a wider range of experiences, that engage difficult and complex human topics, and that push the genre of a "game" forward. 1979 did none of this. While the game did provide a wealth of information to the player, it failed to leverage the mechanics of the medium to expand it beyond what you would be better served acquiring through Wikipedia or web searches. There are few mechanics to playing 1979. one is making decisions, which seem to have little to no bearing on the plot, and which are not framed in a manner that induces tension like the better Telltale Games of this ilk. In addition the countdown timer during which time the player must make a choice is too quick. As a result there is little time in which to weigh choices. Instead of this element adding tension, or forcing a "gut reaction", it strips the decisions of all emotional weight.Another aspect of the game involves collecting photos and items which the game labels collectively as "stories". There is no challenge to this collection aspect. As a result the mechanic is delivered as something of a cross between a chore and an afterthought, tacked on to make this seem like a game rather than to develop it as one.Lastly, there are a few button-pressing sequences that are so infrequent they are almost surprising when they occur, and certainly of no interest.Others have touched on the brevity of the game and it's disappointing and unresolved ending. And while both of these are true, I could forgive them if the rest of the experience wasn't so fundamentally flawed. There was tremendous potential here. A rich subject, a worthy conversation to be had, that does not deliver in really any way. It could have been salvaged by good writing or mechanics, but neither exists here. I do not recommend this at all.. Got gifted this by a friend, he wanted my Iranian review of this take on the revolution.cons first:-The controls really aren't great-It's a little short - the characters don't get much exposition-The choices aren't SUPER relevant?-The graphics are pretty basicTo a lot of die-hard fans of this kind of choose-your-own-adventure genre, those issues are probably gonna matter more, but I understood this more as an interactive educational tool than as a game.I think that it actually does accomplish fitting a lot of info and exposition into relatively short playtime, and delivers a bunch of important and lesser-known facts about the revolution in super simple (but not TOO simple) ways. It would have been great to have seen just a tiny bit more exposition about the groups backing the revolution, including Tudeh, the Mojahedin, Fedai, liberal students, and the like. But it's valuable because it does accurately portray the circumstances, reasoning, and validity behind the revolution.. This game is a good game if you want to experience firsthand a little bit of whatIran has gone through in its history, and then being able to compare it to today. It will definitely open up many people's eyes to what Iranians have had to face, which was probably the point of this game. So in this case, I feel like the devs havedone a great job in accomplishing this task.Cons: However, the story does end short and there have not been any sequels to this. There is bare minimum gameplay and it's pretty much using Telltale style actions.Overall: With it being 2 hours to finish, I still had an enjoyable experience. This gameliterally put me 2 hours in Iran. Even though it ends almost abruptly, it leaves you witha feeling of wanting to learn more about what really happened to Iran in 1979 whichmay cause you to research about it.Rating: 6/10See you on the other side,Godspeed!. Telltale-style game about Black Friday[en.wikipedia.org]. It consist of 19 short chapters and it won't take long to play thru them all, but it's always interesting and you keep learning new stuff (at least I did, who had very little knowledge about the Iranian Revolution). While there are fictional stuff in there (must be since you had choices to do things differently), it was like playing a documentary rather than watching one, which I think was rather cool and I wouldn't mind playing more games like this that are about real events.Valiant Hearts: The Great War (World War I) and Never Alone (Alaska Native culture) are two other games I learned some stuff from, which I also recommend.. Bought this game since we're in a hot political climate right now and before Abu Ivanka al Amreeki decimates majoosi Iran. Absolutely hated it. Why did I waste $6 on this crap game? Could've ordered Oreo McFlurry from McDonald's with it.The story would've been interesting if it wasn't biased, liberalism\/socialism\/democuckracy is the magical answer to every problem a state faces, characters are unlikable, choices are literally pointless and the ending is not an ending. The developers seem to have forgotten about this game too which makes it worse. It's a biased game with a hidden agenda that will mislead people who know nothing of the revolution.
